SPONSORED CLIMB OF KILIMANJARO
Miranda Stephens completed a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in early October, raising money for East Coast Hospice. Already nearly £3,000 has been raised. CONTRACT SIGNED FOR HOSPICE SITE
On 19th August East Coast Hospice exchanged contracts with Norfolk County Council for the purchase of five acres of land on Sidegate Road adjacent to Beacon Park in Gorleston. The next steps are archaeological and ecological surveys prior to applying for planning permission.
The charity is hard at work with local award-winning architect Henry Kelf to finalise the design and site layout.
Ten Bed Hospice and Specialist Palliative Care Support Service
Hospices play a vital role in supporting people with incurable illnesses as well as their family and friends. In the Yarmouth and Waveney area there is currently no inpatient hospice and no other plans to provide one, so a key element in patient choice is missing.
At East Coast Hospice we intend to put that right. We are a local, independent charity and our aim is to build an inpatient hospice combined with a day care centre close to the A12 between Gorleston and Lowestoft that will serve all the people of the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area.
Our focus will be on helping people live well for whatever time is left - we will offer a range of support often alongside specialist active treatment for an illness. We will be able to help deal with specific problems such as pain or nausea, offer residential care to give families a break and all within a supportive and caring environment without the distractions of home or hospital for the last days of life.
