About
The Charity began life in January 2007 when a group of like-minded local people came together as the founding trustees, determined to provide hospice and daycare facilities for terminally ill people in the Yarmouth and Waveney area where there has never been a hospice, and where there are no other plans to provide one.
The idea was supported and encouraged by almost all the people we talked to and surveyed and we now have a business plan, a building design by the award-winning local architect Henry Kelf RIBA, a very positive funding feasibility study, and we are close to choosing a site.
To generate some of the long term running costs we have started opening a chain of charity shops and soon we will begin assembling the capital for the land purchase and the hospice building.
Throughout the whole process we have consulted with NHS Great Yarmouth & Waveney as well as other key partners and we are involved with them in a programme called Marie Curie Delivering Choice which is evaluating and recommending significant improvements to local end of life care services and patient choice. Our hospice will provide specialist end of life care, led by a Specialist Palliative Care Consultant and we will also provide support and training for other agencies and carers.
As a local independent charity we believe that there is abundant local enthusiasm, talent and expertise to make the hospice a reality. If you feel that you can help us with fund raising, promotion and public relations, or planning and running more charity shops please contact us. You might even like to find out more about becoming a board member and taking on some of the fascinating work of developing the charity and moving it forward.
